question for the soapers

I just ordered 2lbs of lye off of ebay for $5.50. Does it look like I got the right stuff? With ground-hazardous shipping, totaled $20 bucks. :-( Where do y'all buy your lye for soap making?

Obviously, men must usually buy this product - note the hot-devil babe on the front.

"Don't be tricked by the other rip-off priced Auctions. This is 100% Pure & 100% Dry Red Devil Lye in the form of Caustic Soda Beads (micropearls)."

  1. I admire people that make their own soap. I've never tried it, but I'd like to learn how.

    See ya soon,

  2. I am of no help in answering your question because I purchase very large quantities since I am a retail handcrafted soap maker. The company I buy from has a minimum order of 24 pounds. Hazmat fees are high, when charged. You might want to contact Jama, at Prosperine Hill. I think she knows of places where you can buyer smaller amounts.

  5. Joanne, yes I think that is ok. I have heard of that product but it is not the same exact packaging. I will check the active ingredients of mine in the next couple days and get back to you. I'm lying in bed with my lap top and feeling lazy so that's why not tonight. I bet you could google it too. I've only made soap once but plan to again soon. Where gloves and eyeshields in a well ventilated are and following direstions closely, I'm sure you know. I bought mine at Agway for $4 or $5.00 (a local grain/hardware store) Hope this helps! ~Kim

  6. I have to buy 10lbs at a time where I buy from, but www.brambleberry.com sells it in 2lb amounts I think. I am not familiar with this brand. As long as it is 100% pure lye it should work fine.
