A Vagabond Song by Bliss Carman, girls new home

A Vagabond Song, By Bliss Carman, 1861-1929
-------------------
There is something in the autumn that is native to my blood --
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.

The scarlet of the maples can shake me like a cry
Of bugles going by.
And my lonely spirit thrills
To see the frosty asters like a smoke upon the hills.

There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by name.

  1. Autumn sure is a glorious season in your neck of the woods. Do you prefer it or spring, I wonder? When I lived up north, I loved spring and fall made me sad, b/c I hated winter!

    That looks like a great place for Clara & Chamonix to thrive.

  2. I love autumn on the farm, it is too bad it seems so short before winter kicks in. What a beautiful home and pasture for them!

  3. I've been off the computer for awhile due to company... I enjoyed getting caught up on your postings.

    So sorry about the eye infection - how are things feeling now? Hopefully, better.

    As usual, the pics of the goats are fab.u.lous.

    I am going to try and make the hash brown casserole... Looks so yummy!
