Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats

SweetPea

Below, is CoCo and Gypsy as they are leaving with the cute, young couple that bought them. See the cage they built in the back of the pickup truck? For a couple of months, they have been preparing living quarters and fencing for the girls and sending me photo's. As they depart, I always tell the folks who buy our goats, if they ever have any life change, the goats always have a home back here.

We're not interested in making a dollar from the animals really, but the monies we receive goes to supporting our financial investment - their dams and sires, feed, hay, medical care, fencing, etc.

When we are selling eggs at the Farmers Market, people seem to think we are making a living by selling eggs at $3.50 per dozen. (because WalMart can sell factory eggs for $ .78 per dozen). Just the feed alone is expensive although Mike says it came down some recently to $10 for a 50lb bag. We spend approx $65 a month just on bird food, and my birds free range and get lots of goodies from my kitchen. Franklin is a big eater!

Mike says the medicated-goat feed is $14 per bag and I'm afraid to ask how much of that we go through in a month. Those goats like to eat and always trying to knock each other out of the way, we have to feed the little ones separately or they'd be crowded out, and never get any grain.

They just look like good people don't they?

SweetPea and Gabbi

Today, I had the French Onion Soup at Panera Bread, wow, I think that's the best FOS I've ever had, wasn't so watery either, had a thickness/richness to it. According to Dottie's webpage:
http://www.dwlz.com/Restaurants/panera.html
French Onion (with cheese & croutons) [9.25 oz] (200 cal/10g fat/2g fiber/23g carbs/8g protein/1780mg sodium) 4.5 oh my, now I see the amount of sodium, I won't pee for a week!

I had a Ruby Tuesday's buy-one-get-one-free coupon, so Saturday for lunch, I got the CrabCake Dinner and Mike got the Talipia Dinner. Was good, in fact, when I got finished there wasn't a speck of broccoli or anything left on my plate and Mike looked up at the server and said, "Y'all won't have to wash hers."

http://www.dwlz.com/Restaurants/rubytuesday.html
Jumbo Lump Crabcake (1) (69 cal/4 g fat/1 g fiber/3 g carbs) 2
White Cheddar Mashed Potatoes (1) (274 cal/16 g fat/3 g fiber/21 g carbs) 6.5
Fresh Steamed Broccoli (1) (129 cal/8 g fat/3 g fiber/5 g carbs) 3
Looks like it cost me 12 points, this big girl was hungry, and it was good!

I'm glad they got a good home. Food is so expensive!

Such beautiful country up there. Looks like the Little Ladies had quite the enthusiastic welcome. Good on ya!

Our neighbors always thought we were lucky for getting "free" eggs, but dad said our chickens laid the most expensive eggs in the county!

My jaw was dropping at the fat and sodium levels in those restaurant foods. I had no idea! gah! Sometimes I get down that we don't get to go out to eat but maybe a couple times a year...now I'm not going to mind so much. lol!

Love the Buck View! hehe! Do they ever try to jump on the shed roof? I know my goaties would. I love to see them run and jump and climb, though.

Looks like good folks that bought your Gypsy and CoCo. It's always hard to say goodbye, though. We stopped by to visit Pepper and Moon Pie on Sunday at their new home. They've been there a few weeks now and looks all settled in and living a good life. They seemed to remember us, though and that felt good.

Your photos are beautiful.
