blogging from the motel room

Lucky me, I won a free trip near Charlotte to a 2-day Drug and Alcohol Program Manager Compliance Training Conference :-( . I took some photo's and a video before I left the mountain. Now, at 11:15PM, in my room, I'm eating grapes and pistachio's as I type.

Drove down, checked into the room, high tailed it to the IMAX theatre, $14 for the ticket, $11 for the popcorn and coke, and watched AVATAR in 3D, awesome. It's basically "Dances with Wolves" in outer space; the tale of a U.S. soldier "going native." Lot's of life lessons and things to ponder in that film. I'll be thinking more about this movie the next few days, taking my NyQuil now.

Blowing Rock is so pretty with all the snow. I like that little church and the pond. It doesn't look that cold, though? Maybe because of the sunny skies?

My daughter and I enjoyed being outside in the snow a few days ago without jackets or hats or mittens because it was so warm outside, even with the snow on the ground. The temps were in the upper 40's and the bright sun reflected off the snow and actually made us feel too warm to bundle up. Kind of like how skiers get when on the slopes, too.
It's funny how a photo doesn't always give a complete picture of a situation.

I've only been in Blowing Rock during the late Spring and Summer. It's just as pretty then, too. I'm sorry you had to go to that drug class.

I'm glad you enjoyed Avatar, though. I wish I could watch movies in 3D, but I'm one of those weird people who can't watch 3D movies without getting a headache, getting blurry vision and watery eyes.

How picturesque is that little town!?! Just lovely,I just can't imagine what it would be like to have all that snow!
I hope you get over that head cold fast.

Hope that you slept well, in spite of your cold. And, I hope you make it back home before the worst of that next storm strikes.

Well, despite having to leave your beloved farm and having to attend your mandatory conference, it sounds like you're making the best of it! The pictures are beautiful - snow in the sunshine, who can't smile?

Beautiful view! Thanks again for sharing. I'm so glad you saw Avatar in
3D - I'm really envious, since my little theater has only 2D.

Lisa, I'm so sorry you couldn't watch it in 3D; sounds like you have the same problem as one of my friends back in Atlanta.

Joanna, I hope the conference isn't a terrible bore!

Dances With Wolves was a great movie. But with today's technology Avatar blows it out of the water!
