Christmas Trees, goats, turkeys, and chickens

Farm Fresh Christmas Trees from the Boone and Blowing Rock Area of the North Carolina Mountains (Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachians). Watauga County, also known as the Choose and Cut Capital, is home to some of the most entertaining and scenic Choose and Cut farms across the region. Choose and Cut involves customers visiting a tree farm and roaming across tree-covered hillsides hunting the perfect tree to take home with them. Choose and Cut is the essential holiday family tradition, where young and old alike can enjoy a day on a real farm. Many farms offer hayrides, farm animals, cookies and cocoa and even Christmas Shops to purchase other holiday gifts. Wreaths and roping are availablefor purchase too.

My faverolle girls.

Mike broke the ice in the bowl and June is getting some water.

Isn't that a cute butt?

Franklin! get out of the goat house.

Good girl SweetPea, she chased him off.

Wheaten Marans girls - they lay the chocolate-colored eggs

Dear ole CherryPie, also a Wheaten Marans. When she was younger, I think the rooster jumped on and broke her leg or hip, that rooster left this world. We don't know if she lays eggs or not but seems to be healthy except that she hobbles around on one foot. She's a survivor and amazingly, we'll look around and she is here and there. She got up in that nest box my herself, not to lay an egg, but sleeps in there.

I really enjoyed your pictures. Your animals all look so healthy. You and Mike obviously care for them very well. Also, I have the exact same divided feeder in my chicken coop. It holds grit for the chickens right next to their food and water. Works great!

I love how your coop has a front porch. How kind that Cherry Pie has the two of you to love her.

Hi Joanna,
I love your pictures.
I hadn't seen any Wheaten Marans before. Now, I want some of those too!
We have(or had) some mean ole roosters too. Cherry Pie is a cutie Pie.

Have a good day.
Pam

I love that you still keep Cherry Pie! People always ask me if we'll eat our chickens when they get too old to lay eggs. I tell them that our chickens have a home for life. I don't think I could kill any of them. (Except maybe the alpha rooster who sometimes gets too big for his britches!)

Joanna,
Your your photo's. I too, had never seen or heard of Wheaten Marans before. Do they lay the dark coppery egg that other Maran's do? They are pretty hens.

Speaking of mean roos..I used to have a MEAN New Hampshire roo. He was crippled but, still peck us kids knees to death LOL!

Those bourbon red turkey's are gorgeous!
