bread, boots, and blah, blah, blah

SweetPea likes getting brushed. I kiss those lips all the time.

ChickensInTheRoad Sourdough Grandmother Bread was worth the trouble and patience, from making the starter, to the end result. umm-boy good. Of course, I like the tangy bread and the crust is chewy the way I like it, not hard and crunchy. I made some chopped chicken BBQ (Neely's BBQ sauce recipe) but Mike was in the mood for a sliced-egg sandwich. What drink are you addicted to? Mine is Snapple Noni Berry, it's diet.

I'm not a shopper, nor a spender, however, I have 4 pairs of waterproof Keen boots. After busting my ankle in July '08, I gotta make sure it's protected with good support and tread. Do not leave the house wearing CROC's. The boots in the back are the ones I turned into muck boots and I wear the black and brown ones to the office. Except for the hiking boots, all have a zipper on the side.

Mike, SweetPea, and Franklin.

SweetPea is a touchy-feely girl.

Our two Nigerian buck boys, Russell Stover "Nougat" and his son, MilkDud.

Nougat, and all the goats love eating the bamboo leaves. yes, our chicken coop is made from mostly recycled items.

Dud! wish you'd show that pose to the judge this Spring.

While the bucks were out, our 3 does nosed around the buck pen - Clara, SweetPea, June.

yes, this is my Saturday attire, may be my Sunday attire too. She's growing, not sure how long SweetPea thinks she can continue to leap into my lap, jumping up and down on my private parts. Franklin always stays close by, gobbling away. If you've never known a turkey tom, you've missed out on a funny character.

look how SweetPea's stomach sticks out on the sides, her Mama's stomach does the same thing.

The Christmas card I sent out, wanted to keep a copy of it somewhere.

One we received, thought it as pretty.

Another one we received, and I hate to throw them away. I know some people do crafts with 'em but I never have.

Cuckoo Marans roo, Early, looks like he has some frostbite on his comb.

Wheaten Marans roo, July, has frostbite too.

Our third roo, Deetz, also a Wheaten Marans roo, his comb appears fine.

Standard Ameraucana's with a bantam Brahma in the middle, all girls.

The bantam Brahma girl, Berta, is very photogenic. She's been a good layer too.

Bourbon Red Turkey - Franklin, and two hens in the background, he has four hens total. If I am going around taking pictures of others and not paying attention to him, he's following me around, gobbling at me, with a real attitude.

I'll leave ya with some turkey poop, black gold, that will go into the compost piles.

Sweet pea is the most precious thing! And Franklin is beautiful. I'm looking forward to having a few turkeys around.

If I have asked you that before, sorry...my memory isn't always the best!

Beautiful post Joanna. If anyone I know follows me over here from Casa Hice, they will think I've lost my mind. I am so envious of you, your farm, animals, and turkey poop. I swear I am.

Gosh those are amazing photos and illustrations. And your posts glue me to the computer. For that reason and many others, I heartily, enthusiastically, and genuinely bestow upon you and Boonedocks Wilcox the Butterfly Award. Please visit http://casahice.blogspot.com for instructions. Congratulations.

Thanks for the turkey poo, just what I needed! Do you need some duck poo? Lemme know...

That Sweet Pea is such a doll! Give those cute l'il goatie lips a smooch for me too, will ya? She's not fat--she's fluffy!

Your chooks look healthy and so does Franklin. None of mine have had any problems with frost-bitten combs yet, knock on wood. I'm surprise too cuz we've had some mighty cold nights this month.

Bread baking and egg boiling must have been in the works today. I did the exact same thing! I love to snack on a boiled egg with a sprinkle of salt on it. Nature's perfect snack!

I love all the pictures. I wanted to kiss Sweet Pea's little lips too!

Sam and I found a picture of a chicken and pasted it in his alphabet book for the letter C. It looked just like a Cuckoo Maran - one of yours.

We were out on our back deck yesterday and heard Franklin gobbling. Sam said, "I like Franklin," then he gobbled some. Then he said, "I want to eat Franklin." I swear I don't know where that came from! I need to keep an eye on him that he doesn't try to take a bite next time we're playing with him!

Just to make you feel a little better, anytime he eats turkey he calls it "Franklin Turkey." He must just think that's what all turkeys are called!

We miss you guys.

Wow, such beautiful photographs today! I am very envious of Sweet Pea - I wish I had a goat like that one! It looks much warmer for you than it is here. You even have some green leaves! Lucky you!

I wonder if any one has made rooster caps to keep their combs from freezing?

Joanna, I have to admit, I saw that adorable face on Sweet Pea yesterday. For whatever reason coud not comment at that time, and knew I was coming back, thinking about that photo ever since. That Sweet Pea has an angelic face. I love how some of our goats appear to smile!

Good morning, Joanna, and thanks for getting me out of here and touring the farm with you! Such fabulous photos and wonderful critters. SweetPea must think she's your baby! And Franklin is the most beautiful turkey - I never thought I'd say that. Have you had him from a hatchling?

I love Sweet Pea. She reminds me of some goat gals around here.
All the pictures are so good.

My goat Annie, would still sit in my lap if I let her and she is almost 2 years old now. Spoiled rotten!

I am going to go back and get that sourdough recipe. I used to make it years ago.
Thanks.
