Why buy in bulk online when you can buy it cheaper at a retail store? and why can you buy it cheaper at the local WalMart than by bulk online?
My question has to do with the purchase price of glycerin soap. The large package 8 bars of Dial Glycerin soap at WalMart is $4.00 including tax, didn't have to pay any shipping costs. The 8 bars equal 2lbs of gycerin soap for $4.00 which is $2 per pound. I go online to look at buying glycerin base/soap by the bulk and I can't find anything close to that $2 per pound. Remember to check the shipping costs online because soap is quite heavy.
This is not an advertisement for WalMart, just asking, "what am I missing?" I'm not interested in the components of the soap at the moment - it's not organic, it's got antibacterial stuff in it, etc - again, I'm just talking about melt&pour into a mold, childs play. Thx.

Joanna, I am not an expert, not at all, when it comes to M&P soap. I have never used it. I do know there are some supplies at craft stores such as Michael's and Hobby Lobby. If you can get to some of those stores, you might be able to find something to play around with (colors, scents and pounds of basic glycerine soap), that will help you get started.
Walmart consistently makes only a few pennies on each item they sell - that is why they can sell so much cheaper than other places that need to make approximately 50% profit (a standard in retail) - they count on selling zillions of items - giving them a big profit and making people come to their store because it is so much cheaper than the other stores - they make up for price in sheer quantity.
I know I am way off topic here...and that is why I avoid going to WM, because I want to see everyone else succeed. But I will admit, I have to go there sometimes because I cannot afford certain things otherwise.
I wish I could help answer your question but I haven't done much with melt & pour soap and I just am not sure if this is the same as the melt & pour base you buy at hobby stores or not. Your soaps turned out cute either way though, I like the heart, good Valentine's Day soap!
